Natasha Zikic, the Carnival Queen
in 2000, who is now resident in Kuwait isn't able to participate in this year's
celebrations, she did however send us this fantastic account of her time as
Carnival Queen. I was lucky enough to be Queen in the Millennium year
and Hanwell Carnival's 40th anniversary. The year was absolutely amazing as I
got to experience so many new places and meet so many interesting people.
Becoming Queen gave me an opportunity to interact with people of all ages as up
until that point I had limited myself to my own age group. In particular I
remember visiting Hanwell House and thoroughly enjoying having tea with all the
residents and listening to their life stories which I have held close to my
heart over the last ten years. Carnival day itself started with
glorious weather and I have fond memories of getting pampered and ready with my
Princess, Jacqueline. I was incredibly excited and nervous about the procession
and of course the dreaded speech! The streets were lined with people all
cheering and contributing generously to the various charities. When we entered
the park that is when the nerves really kicked in as I knew the time had come
to speak to everyone. Luckily I had all the previous Queens with me which
really helped as they had all been in that position before. The rest
of the day was spent walking around and meeting people who had come to enjoy
the community spirit of Hanwell Carnival. Hanwell Carnival was an unforgettable
experience and even though I am thousands of miles away from Hanwell I am there
celebrating in spirit. Good luck to this year's Queen and Princess. Enjoy every
minute and congratulations to the Hanwell Carnival Committee as without your
hard work and dedication the carnival would unfortunately no longer exist.
Enjoy! Natasha. We are hoping Natasha will be able to did some
photo's out, so check back soon. |
